What is the HALF HYROX race FORMAT?

The Half HYROX competition is a shortened version of the actual HYROX competition. The format consists of 8 x 500m runs interspersed with functional workouts, like rowing, walking lunges, wall balls, sled pushes and pulls — a format that remains consistent across all events, which are held in large indoor arenas around the world.

  • 1. SkiErg

    500m

An intense full-body workout where participants use a ski machine, mimicking the motion of cross-country skiing.

  • 2. Sled Push

    25m

Engaging core, glutes, and legs, participants push a weighted sled across a certain distance.

  • 3. Sled Pull

    25m

Sled pull involves pulling the sled towards you using a rope. Get ready to use your glutes, back, biceps & entire trunk during workout station three!

  • 4. Burpee Broad Jump

    40m

This involves participants performing a burpee followed by a broad jump, which challenges both power and agility.

  • 5. Rowing

    500m

Using a rowing machine, participants target both their upper and lower body, demanding coordination and stamina.

  • 6. Farmers Carry

    80m

Holding heavy kettlebells or weights in each hand, participants walk across a set distance, testing grip strength and endurance.

  • 7. Sandbag Lunges

    40m

Participants perform lunges, challenging leg strength and balance by holding a weighted sandbag on their shoulders.

  • 8. Wall Balls

    50

Using a medicine ball, participants perform squats and then throw the ball to hit a target on a wall.

FAQ

Can't find your answer below? Reach out to us, and we'll be happy to answer your question.

  • Can anyone compete in the Half-HYROX event?

Yes, HYROX is for all ages and fitness levels. With simple (but hard) workout stations, no complex movements, and a controlled race environment, the race is doable for everybody. Some athletes will take longer than others, but everyone can finish.

  • How long will the race take me?

Approximately 30-60 minutes (could be more or less depending on the athlete).

  • How does it work for doubles?

Both athletes must run together and take turns on the exercises in doubles. If they complete the required distance/number of repetitions, athletes can switch as often as they want during the exercises.

  • Must doubles be the same age?

No. The doubles 'team age' will be determined from the average age of both doubles partners.

  • What should I bring?

Workout gear, good running shoes with grip, hydration, photo ID. Last year we had several athletes with shoes that had no grip, and they slipped a lot on the sleds. We recommend Puma Deviate Nitro's or similar running shoes with aggressive grip.

  • Will everyone start at once?

No, athletes will be sent in waves every 5-10 minutes.

  • Will everyone start at once?

No, athletes will be sent in waves every 5-10 minutes.

  • What if I don't know the movements or understand the workout stations?

Don't worry we will have judges and volunteers to help you get it right.

  • Are there penalties for not doing the workout correctly?

Yes, but athletes will be given several chances to get it right before a penalty is given. Penalties will involve extra reps or distances.

  • How will I know when my start time is?

You will be informed of your start time by email before the event. The first wave will leave at 9:30 am. If you miss your wave, we will do our best to get you in a later wave, but this is not guaranteed, and you may forfeit your registration. You must be prepared to start at any time on your scheduled day.

  • How early should I arrive?

Please arrive at least 45 minutes before your start time. Check-in at the registration table with your ID.

  • Is there free parking?

Yes. Detailed parking instructions will be provided beforehand.

  • What's if it's raining or bad weather?

We are competing rain or shine. Come prepared either way.

  • Do I get anything for finishing?

Hell yeah! All athletes will receive a finisher medal, and the top 3 in each division will get a trophy at the Awards Ceremony at the end of each day.

  • Can I invite spectators to watch and cheer me on?

Yes! The more the merrier. Bring your signs and cheering voice.

  • Will I get any sort of confirmation or correspondence before the race?

Yes. You will get emails with details and updates as we approach race day.
